Center Alum Giving Taekwondo Demonstration

Center alum (1983) and martial arts expert Michelle Gordon and her team will be at the children’s center Friday to give a Taekwondo demonstration. They have travelled to Chicago from Durham, North Carolina, where Michelle currently runs her own Taekwondo school.

Master Michelle Gordon, a student of Grandmaster Leon Preston (8th Dan), has studied and is certified in various styles of martial arts. She currently holds a 4th Dan in Jidokwon Taekwondo, 3rd Dan in Shorin Ryu Karate, 1st Dan in Judo, 1st Dan in Kendo and a 1st degree in White Crane Kung-Fu. She is a Kukkiwon certified black belt, USA Olympic Level 1 Coach and member of the World Taekwondo Federation in Seoul, South Korea and United States Taekwondo in Colorado Springs, CO. Master Gordon, who began her martial arts career in 1971, has trained and traveled extensively throughout South Korea, and Beijing, China as a member of the USA/Korea Demonstration Team. Ms. Gordon has received the USA Weekend Magazine’s Most Caring Coach Award and the Herald-Sun Newspaper’s Most Caring Coach Award for her work with children. Her other accolades include numerous, state, regional and international awards. She is a graduate of Malcolm X College in Chicago, West Georgia Technical College in LaGrange, GA and the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.


Master Caleb Bell is a certified black belt with 20 years of competition and teaching experience in Taekwondo. Master Bell began his training in 1992, under the instruction of Instructors Anthony Thompson and Michelle Gordon. In 1995, he began training under the guidance of Master Gordon and Grandmaster Kang Seok Lee. Under the instruction of Gordon, Bell has achieved many national and international accolades. He currently holds the rank of 4th Dan and is an 12-time North Carolina State Champion and U.S. National Qualifier, Eight-time Black Belt USA International Champion, and ten- time U.S. Capital Open Champion. He is a Kukkiwon-certified black belt, USA Taekwondo Referee and member of the World Taekwondo Federation in Seoul, South Korea and USA Taekwondo in Colorado Springs, CO. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University with B.A degrees in Computer Science, Technical Writing and French.


Instructor Edmond O. Bailey is a certified black belt with over 16 years of competition and teaching experience in Taekwondo. Bailey began training in Taekwondo in 1995 under the instruction of Master Nam Kun. In 1996, he began training under the guidance of Master Gordon and Grandmaster Kang Seok Lee. He currently holds the rank of 3rd Dan and is a 5-times North Carolina State Champion and U.S. National Qualifier. He is a Kukkiwon certified black belt, Olympic Level 1 Coach, USA Taekwondo Referee and member of the World Taekwondo Federation in Seoul, South Korea and the USA Taekwondo in Colorado Springs, CO. He is a graduate of Campbell University with a B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences.


Assistant Instructor William Adams is a certified 2nd Dan black belt with over 11 years of competition and teaching experience in Taekwondo. He began training in Taekwondo in 2001 under the instruction of Master Ronald Harris and in 2002 began training under Master Michelle Gordon and Grandmaster Kang Seok Lee. Adams is a four-time North Carolina State Champion, U.S. National Qualifier and U.S. Capitol Open Taekwondo Champion. He holds memberships in the World Taekwondo Federation in Seoul, South Korea and USA Taekwondo in Colorado Springs, CO. He is curently a student at Durham Technical College.


Joshua Farmer is a certified black belt with over 10 years of competition and two years teaching experience in Jidokwon Taekwondo. He began training under Grandmaster Kang Seok Lee and Master Michelle Gordon in 2002. Under the instruction of Gordon, Farmer has won many local, state and regional and national accolades. He currently holds the rank of 1st Dan and is a U.S. Capitol Open Taekwondo Champion, North Carolina State Champion and U.S. National Bronze Medalist. He is a Kukkiwon-certified black belt and member of the World Taekwondo Federation in Seoul, South Korea and USA Taekwondo in Colorado Springs, CO. He is curently a student at Durham Technical College.
